Don Bailey

The Metropolitan Museum of Art offers an exhibition of the Dutch Masterpieces. This piece by Margareta Haverman, among many, is the only one in the exhibit by a women? Why? Women were not allowed access to live models where they could study and master the human form. As such, they were relegated to still life as their only creative outlet.

Access has been denied to women in so many ways for so many years. While progress has been made, there is a long way to go.
